Lenovo officially unveiled the two high-end Moto-branded flagship smartphones, the Motorola Moto Z and Moto Z Force along with modular accessories ‘Moto Modes’ at the Lenovo Tech World 2016 event in San Francisco last week. The phones look very similar, so here we will compare Motorola Moto Z vs Moto Z Force to find out which one is better.
The ‘Moto Mods’ modular accessories are replaceable Back Panels adding additional features in a smartphone that can be snapped on the rear of the handset using strong magnets. The Moto Mods include a JBL SoundBoost, Moto Insta-Share Projector, instant Power Pack and Moto Style Shell. Motorola also said that the Moto Mods are designed to be compatible with the company’s future generation phones.
Moto Z vs Moto Z Force : Design & Display
The Moto Z and Moto Z Force both share the same display features. The phones have a 5.5-inch sharp AMOLED display with a Quad HD 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution and giving it a pixel density of 535ppi. The only difference between the phones is that the Moto Z has a Corning Gorilla Glass protection, while the Moto Z force comes with the Moto ShatterShield display which looks more tougher than the Gorilla Glass.

Coming to the design and build quality, the phones sport the same design and build quality except their dimensions and weight. The moto Z is mere 5.19mm thick, while Z Force measures 6.99mm in thickness. The phones come with the premium metal body made of military-aircraft grade aluminium and stainless steel, and will be available in different color options from moto maker.
The phones come with the Water repellent nano-coating. So, these are waterproof devices and support ‘Moto Mods’ as I mentioned before. Motorola also ditched the 3.5mm audio jack, so it comes with the only USB Type-C port for all – data, charging and audio.
Moto Z vs Moto Z Force: Hardware and battery
Moving to the hardware department, both are endowed with quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with a speed of 2.2GHz. This combined with Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. There is also a 32GB / 64GB storage capacity, which can be expanded by up to 2TB via MicroSD. At the rear, you’ll find a Moto Mods connector and a Fingerprint sensor. You’ll also get a 4-Mics and Front-ported loud speaker for an enhanced audio experience.
The Moto Z carries a 2600mAh battery which is claimed to provide a battery life of up to 30 hours of active use. But the Moto Z Force is more focused towards battery life and comes with a powerful 3500mAh battery which offers 40 hours of battery life. Although, both come with Turbo Charging support.
On the connectivity front, these phones include a Single nano-SIM support with 4G LTE (Cat 9), GPS, NFC, WiFi with MIMO and more. So, the devices will offer a great performance and gaming experience. But here’s the Moto Z Force wins with the long battery Life.
Moto Z vs Moto Z Force : Cameras
On the photography front, the moto Z features a 13 Megapixel camera, While the Moto Z Force sports a 21 Megapixel camera. Coming to the camera features both have dual-tone LED flash, phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilization, Laser Autofocus and f/1.8 aperture. On the other hand, these devices are equipped with the same 5MP camera with flash Wide-Angle lens and f/2.2 aperture.
Moto Z vs Moto Z Force : Winner
Definitely, the winner is Moto Z Force as it comes with a longer battery life, and Moto’s unbreakable ShatterShield display technology. So, the display package has tough and durable display protection layer. It means, you’ll also get four years of warranty on display. Moving to the camera department, the rear one has a higher megapixel count compared to the moto Z. But, if you are looking for a slim and lightweight phone, then the Moto Z would be the best phone for you. Because, the Moto Z is just 5.19mm thick and weighs in at 136 grams.
Moto Z vs Moto Z Force : Pricing and Availability
At the time of writing, there’s no word on pricing. But, the company will launch these premium flagship devices along with ‘Moto Mods’ accessories in September 2016. The company also launched the Droid Edition of these phones on Verizon in the United States, but won’t be available until September. So, the Moto Z, Z Force will be called as the Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid respectively.
